Practice Schedule: Practice schedules are posted on each team page.
Game Schedule: Each team will play approximately eight games plus the season finale jamboree. Most games will be on Sunday afternoons. As the season progresses, games may be scheduled with other towns on practice days. All schedules are subject to change – please check team schedules on the web site for updates.
Equipment: The required equipment you purchase to play can be very expensive. Put your name clearly on all your equipment.
Mouth Guards: Every player must wear a mouth guard. You can't play without one.
Water: Bring your own water bottle to practices and games.
Balls: Always chase the ball after a missed catch or shot.
Team Assignments: Are finalized prior to the first game - the teams are divided equally based on skill level. BYL will have a select team at the U15 & U13 level for skilled players, selection will be done by a tryout.
Weather: If the weather is bad, games and/or practices may have to be rescheduled – please check the Teams section of the web site for updates. We will occasionally practice and play in the rain.
Attendance: Lots of kids have signed up to play this year. The ones who come to practice, dedicated to developing their skills, will see the most action in games, but our goal is to play everyone equally in all games.
Lacrosse Magazine: Once players have registered for Barnstable Youth Lacrosse, they automatically become members of US Lacrosse and receive a membership card and Lacrosse Magazine.
Home Practice: Find a masonry wall or backboard to throw against while working on your catching and throwing between practices. There is no better way to improve going both right and left-handed, which is extremely important.
Behavior: When players registered for the Barnstable Youth Lacrosse program, all participants and parents were required to sign an MBYLL Lacrosse Code of Conduct. As a reminder, please treat your coaches and teammates with respect. Be a leader. Never get down on a teammate; always encourage each other. Never retaliate in a game; let the other team serve the penalty. Never complain to the refs about a call. Most importantly, keep up your schoolwork. We want everybody to have a positive experience. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. "Work Hard, Play as a team, Have Fun, and get better every week"
Barnstable Youth Lacrosse is an instructional program designed to introduce young players (Grades 1 to 8) to the exciting game of lacrosse. The Pre-Travel Program (U9) includes players in grades 1-2. Our Travel Program has two U11 teams, 2 U13 teams, and 2 U15 teams for the 2015 season. Games are scheduled with teams from Bourne, Dartmouth, Dennis-Yarmouth, Falmouth, Lakeville, Lower Cape, Mashpee, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, Old Rochester, and Sandwich. Early season emphasis will be on teamwork and individual skills. As players become more proficient with basic skills, offensive and defensive skills will be introduced.
Registration: The registration fee for all U9, U11, U13 and U15 programs is $250. Late registrants pay a registration fee of $275. Registration closes February 8th 2016 to ensure all team numbers and uniforms are organized and ordered in time for the BYL orientation meeting.
Team Assignments: Although team assignments follow general MBYLL guidelines, Barnstable Youth Lacrosse is designed as a feeder program for our high school team. To this end, the program has two primary goals: 1) introduce players to the exciting game of lacrosse and 2) prepare players for lacrosse opportunities that exist at the high school level. To meet both goals, each player has been assigned a playing level based on grade. The following description summarizes the playing levels for Barnstable Youth Lacrosse.
Under 9: This is a skills/clinic and scrimmage program meeting twice a week. Early season emphasis will be on beginner skills including scooping, throwing, catching, and cradling. This program is designed for players in 1st and 2nd grades. Full lacrosse equipment is required.
Under 11: This program is for players in Grades 3-4. Players will face a full schedule of MBYLL teams on Sunday afternoons. The early season emphasis is on developing basic lacrosse skills, teamwork, and a basic understanding of the game. As players become more proficient at base skills, more team offense and defense skills will be introduced. During the season, we may have scrimmages with local MBYLL teams during the week.
Under 13: This program is for players in Grades 5-6. We play a full schedule of MBYLL teams from primarily the Cape and Islands area and travel on Sundays to these contests. The early season emphasis is on teamwork and individual skills. As players become more proficient at base skills, more team offense and defense skills will be introduced. During the season, we may have scrimmages with local MBYLL teams during the week.
Under 15: This program is for players in Grades 7-8. We play a full schedule of MBYLL teams from primarily the Cape and Islands area and travel on Sundays to these contests. We will work on teamwork and individual skills in the early season and progress to offense and defense skills as the season progresses. During the season, we will have games with Cape Cod Academy during the week.
Uniforms and Equipment: All players will be provided two game jerseys and one pair of shorts. Players make keep all of our great BYL swag !! A list and description of required equipment can be found on our web site.
Commitment: Coaches and members of the Board of Directors have made a significant time commitment to the program. As a player, you should make the same commitment to your teammates and coaches. Players are expected to attend practices and games and should consider lacrosse their primary sports commitment during the season. Barnstable Youth Lacrosse generally offers two practices and one game per week beginning in early April and extending through mid-June. Questions and/or Comments
